Blood Sugar

Blood Sugar, a short movie by Delphine Henault

Blood Sugar is a short animated movie I created in my last year of studying for my BA of Interactive Media at FIT in NYC.

For this Senior Thesis I was responsible for the conception and production of the entire piece, from storyboarding to character design, texturing, ligthing, rigging and animation.

The inspiration for the story was my grandfather. When I was a little child, I often visited my grandparents on their farm in a small French village. The visits centered around The visits always started with a long lunch of chicken and peas, at the end of which my Grandma and Aunt proudly served us homemade cakes and bottled fruits. As my grandfather was a diabetics, he could not have any sweets and my grandmother kept a close eye on him. Invariably, he would watch her like a hawk and as soon as she turned her back, he would jump on the cake and eat a piece as fast as he could.

Many years later after I moved to the big City of New York, I used these memories for my Senior Thesis at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I storyboarded, modeled, textured, rigged and animated this piece using Softimage XSI. The highlight of my work was to create an elaborate facial rig blending different eyes and mouth shapes to tell this wordless story through subtle facial expressions.
