Blood Sugar

Blood Sugar, a short movie by Delphine Henault

Blood Sugar is a short animated film I created during my final year while earning a BFA in Interactive Media at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City.

For my senior thesis, I was responsible for the full conception and production of the project, including storyboarding, character design, modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, and animation.

The story was inspired by my grandfather. As a child, I often visited my grandparents on their farm in a small French village. Our visits always began with a long lunch of chicken and peas, followed by homemade cakes and bottled fruits proudly served by my grandmother and aunt. Because my grandfather was diabetic, he wasn’t allowed to eat sweets, and my grandmother kept a close watch on him. Inevitably, he would wait for the moment she turned her back, then sneak a piece of cake as quickly as he could.

A key technical achievement was designing a custom facial rig that blended multiple eye and mouth shapes, enabling nuanced, expressive animation without dialogue.
